Foundation Years
Interswitch was founded in 2002, pioneering Nigeria’s electronic payments ecosystem. We rolled out Paydirect, Webpay, and Autopay, powering the country’s most successful early digital products.
Building Infrastructure
We spearheaded Nigeria’s migration to EMV standards and rolled out Quickteller. Verve, Africa’s first EMV domestic payment card scheme was also launched..
Regional Expansion
Interswitch initiates partnerships with the Central Bank and Bankers Committees of Gambia and Sierra Leone on national switches. GamSwitch goes live, marking the first operational national switch in Gambia.
Diversification & Global Reach
Interswitch acquires VANSO, a mobile and security service provider. We relaunched the brand with a whole new identity. Verve Global cards commence international transactions on the Discover Network.
Ecosystem Growth
Launched Africa’s first interoperable QR platform, strengthened Verve and Quickteller ecosytems, expanded agent networks, and enhanced mobility, healthcare and energy solutions, becoming a backbone for financial inclusion.
