Meet the New Bands Everyone's Talking About

Mayowa Oladejo

7/31/2024

Let’s start off with a quick question: what’s your favourite band of all time?

For many of us, our faves are those bands that rocked the scene while we grew up.

Some boomers sway to the Lijadu Sisters as faves, some are charmed by the soulful highlife of the Oriental Brothers or Fela and the Africa 70 band. A few crank up the Rolling Stones as their faves, while a good number can't resist belting out The Jackson 5 as the band to savour.

What gets Boomers and Gen X going isn't quite the same for Millennials. Millennials are all about chilling; they steer the tunes based on set moods. Sometimes, you'll catch them throwing their hands in the air, tranced by the funky ooh-la-la of a good song, courtesy P-Square, Spice girls, Plantashun Boiz, Boys II Men or NSYNC.

For Gen Z, there’s some more zest to the beat. They don’t do much of what the others do; they are a slightly different breed. They'd easily pick from the roster of K-pop bands, the “aww-aww”, “gosh-gosh” bands like BTS, BLACKPINK, while also tuning in to One Direction, Sauti Sol, Cave Men or Fifth Harmony.

Every generation has its own vibe when it comes to their band of choice. Each era has its own unique sound, style and head bops.

Enough jamming about age groups and the bands they bop to. Let's introduce you to the new bands in town.

These new bands have timeless renditions Boomers, Gen X, Millennials, and Gen Z can dance to, albeit reluctantly, and they have acronymized titles that add some relish to recall; names as simple as A, B, C with no fuss or fluff to them – simple bands with simple names.

Band A, B, C, and others are here to light things up for you! (Pun intended!)

Band A is the most electric of them all; the beats and beeps they produce are out of this world, mind-blowing, and wallet-thumping.

Band B is also eclectic. They can be occasionally erratic in performance, but they are good for it. We’d put them in the same league as the Jackson 5 from the 80s.

Band C is the bare minimum, like a one-hit wonder. They’ll thrill you one minute only to disappoint you the next. They try to keep up, but not hard enough.

These bands are powered by great record labels, the best in the game; IKEDC, IBEDC, AEDC, BEDC, EEDC, PEDC, among others - all amazing record labels.
