Africa’s leading integrated digital payment and e-commerce company, Interswitch Group, recently announced a strategic partnership with Gusii Mwalimu Savings and Credit Cooperation (SACCO) to allow teachers make seamless transactions through a highly secure chip and pin payment card.
The SACCO is a member-based financial institution which operates on co-operative values, identity, and principles including social responsibility, openness, honesty, and care for each other. In simple words, it’s a self-help organization in which a group of people stock their savings and offer loans to their own members. The main objective behind setting up SACCOs was to combat poverty by enabling the poor to train how to utilise limited resources.
Effectively, Interswitch’s Verve debit card opens its Pan-African payment network to over 31,000 members of the SACCO, enabling them to transact from 185 countries across the world.
Interswitch Group Kenya Country General Manager, Romana Rajput, said the payments firm is deepening relations with a wide range of financial services providers to boost local, international, and cross-border transactions over a secure platform.
